Offering the same functions as the Avaya J169 with a colour display not greyscale. Plus the J179 IP Phone also supports the optional J100 series module, giving the phone Wifi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Streamlining is achieved for everyday tasks such as accessing the company directory, voicemail messages and call history with the permanent buttons on the handset. Four buttons on each side of the colour display which have red and green LED lights let users see each buttons status. Like the previous J100 phone series, the Avaya J179 has a wall mount and dual position stand. This means the phone can be placed anywhere in the office.
Another benefit of the J179 IP phone is the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) protocol support which reduces costs through lower energy consumption with their Power over Ethernet (PoE) Class 1 design. A range of unified communications is supported like the Avaya Aura, Avaya IP Office, Broadsoft Broadworks and Zang Office R1.0.
